Generation

Supplying and generating energy across New Zealand.

Renewable, reliable energy - for today, and for the future.

Here at Nova, we’re committed to providing renewable and reliable energy for today, tomorrow, and into the future.

We’re on a mission to become a leading solar power generator. Nova and its associated companies already own and operate a 2MW solar power plant, and we are building a 400MW solar plant in the central North Island with joint venture partner Meridian Energy.

We also own two fast-start power plants. Both play an important role in providing reliable electricity generation for New Zealand when more power is needed or when other energy sources are not generating sufficient electrons.

As New Zealand transitions to a low-emissions future, we will maintain energy system resilience while enabling lower-carbon alternatives and sustainable energy generation solutions. We are also proud to be a part of Powering Change, a collective commitment to a more sustainable future for New Zealand.

Kapuni Solar Power Plant

Nova’s 2.1MW solar power plant, located in Taranaki, has been operating since 2021 and was the largest solar plant in New Zealand for a time. Nova applied its experience and knowledge from Kapuni to the Te Rahui solar project.

Te Rahui

Nova has received resource consent to develop a 400MW solar power plant at Rangitāiki, 35km southeast of Tāupo.

The project, developed in partnership with Meridian Energy, will deliver 200MW of renewable energy by 2027, with an additional 200MW to be built before the end of the decade.

The project has an integrated environmental and social programme that includes significant restoration of the environment and meaningful engagement with tangata whenua and the wider community.

Fast-start generation

Nova operates two fast-start natural gas power plants in Taranaki that can reach 100 MW capacity within 15 minutes.

Our McKee Power Plant has been operating since 2012, and our Junction Road Power Plant was commissioned in 2020.

Both plants play an important role in supporting New Zealand’s security of electricity supply. This is especially important during peak demand periods when more power is needed or when other sources of electricity are not sufficiently generating.
